#22/RV Women's Basketball Suffers Third Straight Loss; Drops Tight Match to Bloomsburg
BLOOMSBURG, PA – Trailing by one point with 15 seconds to go, the #22/RV Thomas Jefferson University women's basketball team (6-4) had a chance to take the lead. A turnover with eight ticks left in the game sealed the Rams 67-66 defeated to Bloomsburg University (6-3) in Sunday afternoon non-conference competition.
WHAT HAPPENED
- Rams struggled in the first quarter, shooting 3-of-12 on the floor. Emma Kuczynski started it off with a three pointer, but her layup alongside Tori Nigro were the only shots made for Jefferson. Going 4-6 on the free throw line helped them as Nigro, Gabby Recinto, and Cassie Murphy all got points from the charity stripe.
- Rams were ahead 10-9 late in the first, but Ava Stevenson made her three while Akasha Santos converted on her layup to make it 14-11 after one
- Jefferson got back on track in the second, outscoring the Huskies 16-13. Shooting 7-of-16 helped their chances to get back in the match. Recinto scored six points in the quarter while Emily Spratt was behind with four, helping each of them for a team-leading 16 apiece. Jordyn Thomas got a basket while Nigro made a free throw and shot to make the contest 27-27 at the break.
- Jefferson kept that momentum in the third as they started the half with a 13-3 run. Kuczynski scored a three and basket while Murphy hit her shot while going 2-2 at the charity stripe alongside Nigro. Recinto hit a layup to get in on the scoring action.
- Bloomsburg kept the game close, getting as close as two in the third before Spratt nailed a fastbreak jumper to make it 47-43 heading into the fourth quarter
- Both teams looked to take the momentum in the game, but the Huskies had the advantages as they outscored Jefferson 24-19
- The game saw both team trade points and the lead multiple times, including a layup by Recinto to even it out at 62-62 with 2:06 to go.
- After a three by Kelly Leszcynski, Recinto and Nigro made their shots to put the Rams up 66-65 with 30 seconds left to go
- Katelin Tipin took an offensive rebound and made her shot to put Bloomsburg out ahead 67-66 with 15 seconds to go
- After a timeout, Jefferson went to drag the time out for a final shot, but a turnover sealed their fate and ended their comeback attempt against the Huskies
