Women's Soccer Team Advances With Overtime Win Over Bentley In The First Round Of The NCAA Tournament 

GARDEN CITY, NY - Thomas Jefferson University women's soccer (18-1-2) made history in a thrilling double-overtime finish, Mia Ferrara's corner goal secured their first-ever NCAA Tournament victory and extended their season win record to 19 games. Bentley fell short 2-1 and the Rams now advance to the second round where they will face Adelphi University.  

WHAT HAPPENED 

• The Falcons are first ones to attack with a shot on goal by Bridget Gleason but Liv Riddel, Goalkeeper of the Year in the CACC, is ready for the save 

• The Rams fired back with shots from Nikki Dedes, Mia Ferrara, and Kyra Lesko, but the goalkeeper for the Falcons, Claire Ewen who can save all three 

• Carly Yeager proving to be an offensive and defensive threat takes the ball all the way down the field herself but is unable to find get through the Falcons 

• Bridget Gleason and Abi Hennessey take shots to the bottom middle where Riddel collects her second and third saves. Ferrara takes a final shot in the half that goes out high, leaving the Rams and the Falcons tied at 0-0 

• The Falcons started off strong with their first goal at the 50:20 minute mark made by Heidi Lawrence, assisted by Sydney O'Connor being the first to score in the match. Dedes and Ferrara both put up shots again but couldn't find the net.  

• Kiery Spatz not only ties up to score 1-1 after a successful penalty kick goal but she also extends the schools record for penalty picks made to 9  

• Ferrara again takes a shot to end the half, Ewen earing another save. Tied at 1-1 the Rams and the Falcons head into the first overtime round 

• Both teams battled but Spatz finds herself in a position to take a shot, Owen collecting the save as the 10 minutes come to a close still at 1-1 

• The second overtime round begins and within the two minutes Ferrara goes for the corner kick and sends the ball right into the Falcons net, bringing the score to 2-1. Jefferson claims the double overtime victory over Bentley, as well as the first postseason NCAA Tournament win in school history 

ONTO THE NEXT ROUND 
Women's soccer first NCAA Tournament win was collected against Bentley University on November 22 in Garden City, New York. The Rams appeared in the second round once before on penalty kicks, making their most recent win over the Falcons their first postseason victory.
