Rowing Comes In Sixth at NCAA Division II Championships

CHERRY HILL, N.J. – The Thomas Jefferson University women's rowing team concluded the 2022-23 campaign with the NCAA Division II Championships on the Cooper River on Friday and Saturday. The Rams finished sixth in the team standings.
 
Cal Poly Humboldt swept the eight and the four to claim its third national title and first since 2014.

* The three crews fell into their finishing positions quickly through the first 500 meters and remained in those spots the rest of the race as the Rams conserved energy for the repechage later in the day. *

4. Western Washington – 7:29.223
 
* It was a tight race after the opening 500 meters with the four boats separated by just three seconds. The crews began to separate over the second 500 meters. The Rams made a move in the last 500 meters and held the second spot approaching the finish but Embry-Riddle had one last sprint in them and clipped Jefferson at the finish. *
 
Petite Final
1. Western Washington – 7:29.235
2. Jefferson – 7:40.339
 
* Western Washington got off to a strong start and pulled away from the Rams. *

* Similar to the eights repechage, the Rams sat in third just behind Seattle Pacific for the majority of the race. Jefferson picked up the pace and briefly overtook the Falcons down the stretch but Seattle Pacific used one last push to edge the Rams. *
 
Petite Final
1. Jefferson – 8:30.227
2. Embry-Riddle – 8:33.663
 
* The Rams trailed the Eagles for the first 1500 meters of the race but remained within striking distance. Jefferson closed the gap to less than a second at the 1500-meter mark and used a strong final 500 to pull ahead. The Rams were four seconds faster than the Eagles in the final quarter to earn the win and place fifth overall. *
 
NOTES
- It was Jefferson's second consecutive NCAA Championships appearance and the Rams' fifth overall as a team.
