PHILADELPHIA – The Thomas Jefferson University women's lacrosse team (8-8) rallied in the third quarter but 20
th-ranked Mercy (10-6) proved too much in the fourth as the Rams fell to the Mavericks, 17-7, in a non-conference game on Wednesday.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Mercy started strong, scoring the first four goals of the matchup.
Iris Gluck got Jefferson on the board at the 7:35 mark but the Mavericks came back with two more tallies to lead 6-1 after one. It was a low-scoring second frame with just three total goals. The visitors notched two of them and took an 8-2 advantage into halftime.
Mercy opened the scoring in the third to up its cushion to seven (9-2). The Rams rallied with five straight goals to get back in the game and close the gap to two (9-7) with 3:59 on the clock. However, the Mavericks locked down on defense and netted the final eight goals of the contest, outscoring Jefferson 7-0 in the fourth quarter to earn the win. Mercy held the Rams to just four shots over the final 18 minutes of the game.
