PHILADELPHIA – The Thomas Jefferson University softball team (14-22, 8-14 CACC) recovered from an opening loss to defeat visiting Dominican (10-32, 6-16 CACC) in game two of a doubleheader and keep its playoff hopes alive on Sunday.
GAME ONE – L, 7-2
The Chargers scored the opening run in the third inning on a two-out RBI single to right center. They upped their advantage to four with a three-run homer in the fifth. Another three-run shot in the sixth made it 7-0 Dominican.
Meanwhile, the Rams struggled to get runners in, leaving six on base through the first five frames. Jefferson finally broke through for a pair of runs in the sixth on an RBI single by
Victoria Juckniewitz and a sacrifice fly by
Annabella Zito. However, the Rams could not muster anymore and dropped the opening game.

The contest was scoreless until the third when Jefferson went off for four runs in the inning. The first three hitters reached, finished by
Winnai Hoyt's two-run double. After a groundout,
Sam Gomez singled in Hoyt to make it 3-0. Following a pop-up,
Victoria Juckniewitz finished the scoring in the frame with an RBI double to left.
In the pitching circle,
Gianna DeLorenzo retired the first eight batters she faced and allowed just one baserunner on a single through five innings. The Rams then exploded for five runs in the bottom of the fifth to end the game early due to the eight-run rule. The first three hitters reached to load the bases. After an infield fly, the next four got on as well, with Juckniewitz,

Kayla Cavanaugh all bringing in runs.

CACC PLAYOFF PICTURE
With two games remaining in the regular season, the Rams sit in ninth place in the CACC standings and still have a shot at the eighth and final conference playoff spot. Jefferson must win both of its final two games on Tuesday and receive help from other teams in the conference on Wednesday to crack the playoff field.
