PHILADELPHIA – The #20/9 Thomas Jefferson University women's basketball team (17-3, 9-1 CACC) had its lowest offensive output of the season and suffered its first conference loss with a 57-44 setback at Chestnut Hill (12-7, 7-3 CACC) on Wednesday evening.
HOW IT HAPPENED
The Griffins got out to a 10-2 lead in the opening quarter. The Rams followed with seven of the next nine to get within three (12-9) entering the second. Jefferson started the period with four straight points to go ahead 13-12. However, Chestnut Hill responded with a 7-0 run for a 19-13 advantage with 6:21 on the clock. The Rams came back with a 7-2 stretch to cut the deficit to one (21-20) before a Griffins' layup made the score 23-20 at halftime.
Jefferson opened the second half with six points in a row to jump in front 26-23 but Chestnut Hill answered with a 17-1 surge to take the lead for good, 40-27, with 1:05 remaining in the third quarter. The Rams were only able to get within nine and shot just 4-of-21 in the fourth.
