PHILADELPHIA – The Thomas Jefferson University softball team (11-23, 10-12 CACC) suffered a pair of losses to Wilmington (Del.) in conference action on Thursday.
GAME ONE – L, 4-2
The Wildcats got on the board in the second when two runs scored on an error. The Rams struggled to get going early on as the first 11 Jefferson batters were retired. After the two Wilmington runs came across,
Gianna DeLorenzo sat down 12 in a row to keep it close for the Rams. Jefferson finally broke through in the fifth as
Ali Murphy drove in a run with a single to make it 2-1.
Sam Gomez evened it up in the bottom of the sixth, smashing her team-leading third home run of the year. However, the Wildcats recorded a pair of RBI singles in the top of the seventh to take a 4-2 advantage before retiring the Rams in the bottom of the frame to finish off the win.

GAME TWO – L, 7-5
The Rams opened the scoring on
Ellie Egher's RBI double in the first. Wilmington scored twice in the third to go in front. The Wildcats upped the margin to three (4-1) with another two runs in the fourth. Wilmington then made it 7-1 with a three-run fifth. The Wildcats recorded an RBI single, and drew a walk and a hit by pitch with the bases loaded.
Jefferson got two runs back in the bottom of the fifth.
Winnai Hoyt singled in a run and
Ali Murphy came home on
Sage Bolonski's groundout. The Rams kept it at 7-3 heading into their final at-bat.
Sam Gomez and
Victoria Juckniewitz hit back-to-back RBI singles to get Jefferson within two (7-5). The Rams had runners at first and second with one out but a fly out and a fielder's choice ended the comeback attempt.

CACC PLAYOFF PICTURE
With one day remaining in the Rams' regular season, Jefferson currently sits in a jumbled pack of four teams tied for sixth place in the CACC at 10-12. In total, there are still seven teams battling for the final four playoff spots. The Rams' magic number to clinch a berth is three and they still control their own destiny entering the regular season finale.
