Softball Falls Twice To Wilmington

PHILADELPHIA – The Thomas Jefferson University softball team (11-23, 10-12 CACC) suffered a pair of losses to Wilmington (Del.) in conference action on Thursday.

GAME ONE – L, 4-2
The Wildcats got on the board in the second when two runs scored on an error. The Rams struggled to get going early on as the first 11 Jefferson batters were retired. After the two Wilmington runs came across, Gianna DeLorenzo sat down 12 in a row to keep it close for the Rams. Jefferson finally broke through in the fifth as Ali Murphy drove in a run with a single to make it 2-1.

Sam Gomez evened it up in the bottom of the sixth, smashing her team-leading third home run of the year. However, the Wildcats recorded a pair of RBI singles in the top of the seventh to take a 4-2 advantage before retiring the Rams in the bottom of the frame to finish off the win.

The Wildcats recorded an RBI single, and drew a walk and a hit by pitch with the bases loaded.

CACC PLAYOFF PICTURE
With one day remaining in the Rams' regular season, Jefferson currently sits in a jumbled pack of four teams tied for sixth place in the CACC at 10-12. In total, there are still seven teams battling for the final four playoff spots. The Rams' magic number to clinch a berth is three and they still control their own destiny entering the regular season finale.
