PHILADELPHIA – Holy Family scored the only goal of the game in the fifth minute and the Thomas Jefferson University women's soccer team (11-5-1, 9-2-1 CACC) dropped the regular season finale to the Tigers (5-5-7, 5-2-5 CACC) by a 1-0 score on Tuesday.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Holy Family played with urgency as it battled for playoff seeding and the Rams were unaffected by the outcome of the game, having already secured their seed. HFU found the back of the net on its first shot. The Tigers sent a free kick into the box and the goal came out of the scramble. Holy Family had a 5-4 advantage in shots in the opening half.
Jefferson improved its play in the second period, holding the Tigers to just one shot while recording five of its own. The Rams thought they had the equalizer down the stretch but the play was ruled offside and it remained 1-0.
Nikki Dedes had another great chance for Jefferson with just under two minutes to play but the HFU goalkeeper made a leaping save to hold on to the shutout.
