Women's Soccer Defeats Holy Family for Second Straight CACC Title

PHILADELPHIA – Devin Sullivan scored the game-winner in the 61st minute and the Thomas Jefferson University women's soccer team made it stand for a 2-1 victory over Holy Family in the CACC Championship Game on Monday afternoon. It is the Rams' second consecutive conference title and fifth overall. They finish the campaign with a 7-1 record.

GAMEPLAY
The Tigers started strong with two shots and a corner kick in the opening six minutes. Jefferson then got going, getting off three shots over the next four minutes, the last of which found the back of the net. Emma Kuciapinski sent the ball towards the right side where Chloe Quinn settled the ball and beat the goalkeeper with an arcing shot inside the left post, giving the Rams a 1-0 advantage in the 10th minute.

Holy Family withstood two more Jefferson shots after the goal and countered with the equalizer in the 16th minute. Each team had four shots over the remainder of the period and went into halftime tied at one.

The first 10 minutes of the second half was won by the Tigers, who recorded three shots and a corner kick. Rams' goalkeeper Danielle Samson stood tall, stopping two shots and keeping the game even. In the 61st minute, Jefferson sent a ball deep into the left offensive corner. Devin Sullivan won the race to the loose ball, dribbled around two defenders to the middle of the box in front of the left post, and beat the goalie to the top right of the net, banging it in off the crossbar for a 2-1 Rams' lead. It was Sullivan's second goal of the CACC Tournament and third of the season.

Jefferson focused on defending over the last 29 minutes, allowing five shots but only one of them on goal, which Samson turned away. She finished with six saves. The last Holy Family opportunity came with 1:47 remaining but the shot went high. The Rams played keep away in the offensive end and ran out the clock for the CACC crown.
