LYNDHURST, N.J. – The Thomas Jefferson University softball team split its season-opening doubleheader at Felician on Saturday, dropping the first game, 9-8, before bouncing back to shut out the Golden Falcons in the nightcap, 2-0.
 
GAME ONE – L, 9-8
The Rams wasted little time getting on the board as Sam Gomez blasted a three-run homer in the opening frame. Felician countered with its own home run, albeit a solo shot, in the bottom of the first to make it 3-1. An error in the third allowed the Golden Falcons to close the gap to one before Cayla Kalani recorded a RBI single in the fourth to give Jefferson a 4-2 advantage.
 
Felician smacked another homer in the fifth before exploding for five unearned runs in the sixth on two singles and two doubles to go ahead 8-4. The Rams recovered in the seventh, posting four runs to tie the score. Emily Akelaitis was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded and Gomez followed with a bases-clearing double to right center. However, the Golden Falcons were able to push across the winning run in the bottom of the seventh with a sacrifice fly.

GAME TWO – W, 2-0
Gianna DeLorenzo hurled a six-hit shutout in the circle to spark the Rams to a victory in game two. Jefferson went in front in the second when Winnai Hoyt scored on an error. Breck Urban made it 2-0 in the fourth, driving in Victoria Juckniewitz with a double to center. That was enough for DeLorenzo, who did not allow an extra-base hit and struck out one.
