Box Score PHILADELPHIA – The Jefferson (Philadelphia University + Thomas Jefferson University) women's lacrosse team (3-7) dropped a nonconference tilt on Sunday afternoon at home from Ravenhill Field to the Bloomsburg Huskies (8-3) by a final of 18-8 on senior day.
Jefferson celebrated its three seniors before the matchup: Kathryn Avanzato, Samantha Ryder and Liz Wissmann.
Avanzato had two goals and an assist in the loss. She stands at 99 career goals and 178 career points.
Ryder had a team-high three goals and notched one assist for a team-high four points on the day. The senior also won a game-high six draw controls.
Sophomore Sarah von Lange also had a two-goal game while sophomore Erin Eckert a recorded a goal as well. Junior Laura Dunne recorded two assists while freshman Camryn Sullivan had one.
The game was close early as Bloomburg held a 3-2 lead over the opening eight minutes but a four-goal stretch pushed the Huskies' advantage up to five at 7-2. Each team scored two goals in the final eight minutes of the half as the score was 9-4 in favor of Bloomsburg at the break.
The Huskies scored the first five goals of the second half to go up 14-4. But a quick goal by von Lange stopped the running clock before Avanzato and Ryder cut the deficit down to seven, 14-7.
Bloomsburg scored four of the last five to win 18-8 as the clock ran for the final 7:50 of play.
Draw controls were even in the game, 14-14, with each team winning seven in each half. Bloomsburg held a 31-22 edge on shots.
The game featured seven yellow cards including five against Jefferson. Three of Bloomsburg goals came on the man-up advantage.
