Softball Sweeps Bloomfield to Win Sixth-Straight Contest

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2

PHILADELPHIA – The Jefferson (Philadelphia University + Thomas Jefferson University) softball team (10-10, 6-2) won its fifth- and sixth-straight affairs on Friday afternoon on campus as the Rams took down the Bloomfield Bears (6-12, 6-6 CACC) in a pair of conference matchups.

Over that six-game stretch, the Rams' pitching staff has yet to yield an earned run.

FRIDAY GAME ONE – W, 8-2
Jefferson scored one run in the first, three in the third and four in the fifth to power past the Bears in game one on Friday. The Rams would have run-ruled Bloomfield if not for an error-ridden fourth inning which saw two Bears come around to score.

Sophomore Emily Williams, who went 2-for-3 in the first contest, singled in the first run in the bottom of the first, 1-0.

Junior Naomi Stas started the third with a double to center field. A sacrifice bunt from sophomore Madison Heno and a bunt single followed by a stolen base put senior Erica D'Angelo on second. Sophomore Breck Urban then took a ball the other way two bring in a run before Williams' two-run double made the score 4-0.

Bloomfield got two back in the fourth behind a three-error inning from Jefferson.

But the Rams continued to put runs on the board with a four-run fifth behind a D'Angelo RBI single, a Jovanna Alfonsi RBI single and a two-run home run off the bat of junior Courtney Wensel to make it 8-2.

Stas (W, 5-4) threw a complete game with five strikeouts while allowing four hits. Both the runs against her were unearned.

FRIDAY GAME TWO – W, 2-0
Stephanie Pepper (W, 4-3) struck out 12 Bears in the complete game shutout and allowed just two baserunners as Jefferson earned the Friday CACC sweep.

Jefferson got two hits to start the third from Pepper's double and Heno's single. A sac bunt from D'Angelo led to Urban's two-run double to center field, 2-0.

Those two runs were enough for the Rams to hold on to the win.

Erin Maher went 2-for-3 in game two with a single to center field in the second before another base hit in the sixth.
