PHILADELPHIA – The Philadelphia University hit three home runs as it pulled out a split of its Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) doubleheader with Post University Thursday afternoon. After dropping game one 5-3, Philadelphia bounced back to win the second game 3-2.

In the game two victory, the Rams hit only one home run, but it provided all the runs pitcher Stephanie Pepper (Toms River, N.J./Central Regional) would need to get the win.

With Megan Letos (Bristow, Va./Stonewall Jackson) and Shannon Weaver (Sinking Spring, Pa./Wilson)  on base in the bottom of the second, Naomi Stas (Tuckerton, N.J./Pinelands Regional) lifted the first pitch she saw from Leslie Denis over the left field fence for a three-run home run to break the scoreless tie. It was her team-leading fourth home run of the season.

Post (17-24, 11-13 CACC) answered back with single runs in the third and fourth innings to close the gap to 3-2. Skylar Devroin hit a two-out solo homer in the third and Kate Dawson recorded a two-out RBI single one inning later.

Pepper would settle down to retire the final 10 Eagle batters she faced, five via strikeout. She finished the game with eight strikeouts over the seven innings to notch her ninth win of the season.

Both teams had four hits.

The Rams (19-24, 11-11 CACC) slugged a pair of homers during a three-run fourth inning to take a 3-1 game one lead. Courtney Wensel (Bechtelsville, Pa./Berks Catholic) tied the game at one with her first collegiate home run, which cleared the fence in left field. Weaver stepped to the plate with two away and gave Philadelphia a 3-1 advantage with a two-run blast, her first home run since 2015. Letos singled two batters earlier and was on second base for the go-ahead homer.

Post reclaimed the lead in the sixth inning with four runs on three hits. With runners on first and second, Natalie Lennox laid down a sacrifice bunt. Madison Heno picked up the ball and threw to first; however, no one was covering first and Jessica Grzywna. Devorin followed that up with a two-run single to put Post in front 4-3. Emily Schaffer brought in Post's final run with a two-out double to left to cap a 3-for-4 game.

Jovanna Alfonsi (Hatfield, Pa./North Penn) and Letos were both 2-for-3 for Philadelphia.

Stas took the complete-game loss. In addition to her success at the plate, Schaffer earned the win with three scoreless innings of relief.

Philadelphia will face Caldwell University in a CACC doubleheader on Saturday, April 29 at noon.
