Mower nets two in 16-3 setback at Mercy

DOBBS FERRY, N.Y. – Liz Mower (Harleysville, Pa./Souderton Area) scored a pair of goals for the Philadelphia University women's lacrosse team in a 16-3 loss to host Mercy in a non-conference match Friday afternoon.

Isabella DiGnazio (Pittsburgh, Pa./Peters Twp.), who recorded a career-high six caused turnovers, opened the scoring for Philadelphia (1-3) with a free-position goal at the 14:04 mark to cut the Mercy (5-1) lead to 2-1.

The Mavericks' Meg McNally and Hunter Isnardi both found the back of the net twice in the final 10:35 of the half to give Mercy a 6-1 halftime advantage.

After Mercy extended its lead to 9-1, Mower got into the scoring act with consecutive goals to bring Philadelphia within six. Mower's first goal came on a free-position shot with 20:19 left in the contest. On the very next sequence, Mower won the draw control, sprinted down the field, and beat Sianne Judson for her seventh goal of 2016.

Led by two Grace Davidson goals, Mercy scored the last seven goals of the match.

Tori DiFusco recorded a team-high five points (three goals, two assists), while Davidson racked up four goals. Isnardi finished up with two goals, two assists, eight draw controls, three ground balls, and two caused turnovers.

Mercy's starter keeper Jillian Rocco recorded six saves in the first half to earn the win, while Judson had five saves. Philadelphia's Felicia Branagan (Millville, N.J./Millville) stopped a career-high 14 shots.

Philadelphia returns home to face Queens (N.Y) in a non-conference match on Tuesday, March 22 at 4:30 p.m.
