Men's tennis defeated by Bloomsburg in spring opener

PHILADELPHIA – The Philadelphia University men's tennis team dropped its first match of the spring season to Bloomsburg, 6-3, in a non-conference match Saturday night in the Legacy Youth Tennis Center.

Philadelphia (1-4) earned all three of its points in singles play.

Jacobo Atri (Mexico City, Mexico/Colegio Hebreo Monte Sinai, AC) improved to 4-0 as he came from one set down to rally back and defeat Leonardo Nakasone at No. 4, 4-6, 6-2, 1-0 (10-3). Vincent Breer (Heidelberg, Germany/English Institut Heidelberg) picked his first victory as a No. 3 player with a hard-fought 6-4, 4-6, 1-0 (10-8) triumph against Dhir Gala.

Celso de Vera Rehberger (Oviedo, Spain/Santa Maria del Naranco) recorded his first win of the season with a 7-5, 6-4 victory over Pablo Herrero in the No. 1 flight.

Bloomsburg is now 2-0 this season.

Philadelphia now has nearly a month off before returning to action against visiting Gwynedd Mercy University on Saturday, March 19 at 1 p.m.
