Box Score

PHILADELPHIA – Three Rams scored in double figures as the Philadelphia University women's basketball team extended its winning streak to a season-high four with a 59-41 Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) triumph over Concordia (N.Y.) Wednesday night in the Gallagher Center.

Forward Tori Arnao (Newtown, Pa./Archbishop Wood) recorded her team-leading ninth double-double of the season with 15 points and 12 rebounds, both game highs, to lead the Rams—who improve to 10-5 overall and remain perfect in conference play at 6-0.

Mary Newell (Lansdale, Pa./Villa Joseph Marie) contributed 10 points, eight boards, and four blocked shots, while Bria Young (Philadelphia, Pa./Prep Charter) had a 10-point night.

After a back-and-forth opening quarter that ended with a Jackie McCarron (Harleysville, Pa./Lansdale Catholic) basket at the buzzer to give Philadelphia a 17-16 lead, the Rams played shutdown defense during the second 10 minutes to take a 27-19 advantage to the locker room for halftime.

In that second quarter, the Clippers (3-9, 1-5 CACC) scored just three points, all coming on a Julianne Wilkinson 3-pointer basket with 3:01 gone. Philadelphia forced Concordia into a 1-of-11 shooting effort and six turnovers. The Rams put up 10 points, three from Newell, and outrebounded the visitors 12-5.

With Philadelphia's lead at 34-25 after a Newell bucket, Concordia rattled off five straight points—three from Brianna Hendrick and two from Jessica Rosalbo—to close the gap to 34-30 with 5:29 remaining in the third quarter. The Rams find their shot over the duration of the quarter, going 5-of-7 from the floor, to end the third on a 12-2 surge to widen the gap to 46-32 on a Kelsey Jones (Lafayette Hill, Pa./Mount St. Joseph Academy) 3-pointer. Defensively, Philadelphia didn't allow Concordia to make any of its six shot attempts.

The Rams' cushion reached a game-high 20 points (59-39) after Valez Jackson (Yeadon, Pa./Merion Mercy Academy) connected from behind the arc with 1:04 left in the contest.

Rosalbo led the Clippers with 14 points on 5-of-10 shooting.

Philadelphia finished the game shooting 41.8 percent from the field, while Concordia shot 27.3 percent. It was the Rams' second-best performance in terms of opponent shooting percentage this season.

The Rams also owned a 43-34 rebounding advantage.

Philadelphia finishes up its three-game home stand with a CACC contest against Felician on Saturday, Jan. 9 at 2 p.m. in the Gallagher Center.
