Women's soccer falls at Dowling

SHIRLEY, N.Y. – The Philadelphia University women's soccer team suffered a 1-0 shutout loss to Dowling in a non-conference match Wednesday afternoon on Golden Lions Field.

The Golden Lions' Allie Merrill tallied the match's lone goal at the 28:34 mark after receiving a pass from Randi Knepper in the penalty area. Merrill's shot beat Philadelphia keeper Courtney Shaw (Langhorne, Pa./Villa Joseph Marie) to the left post for the score.

The Rams (1-4) took five shots, getting two on goal. Morgan Graus (Rochester, N.Y./Hilton) got the Rams' first shot on target at 18:20. Shortly after reentering the match, Carley Sliwka (Freehold, N.J./Freehold) had a shot to tie the match, but was stopped by Mariah Valva.

Shaw stopped four shots for the Rams.

Dowling (1-3) owned a 14-5 shot advantage.

Philadelphia heads to Dominican (N.Y.) for a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference match on Saturday, Sept. 19 at noon.
