Box Score LAKEWOOD, N.J. – The Philadelphia University women's lacrosse team fell to Georgian Court 12-11 in sudden death overtime on a Melissa Williams goal in the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference Tournament semifinal round Saturday afternoon.
Philadelphia, the 2014 CACC champion, ends the season at 10-8. Georgian Court improves to 11-5 and will face Holy Family for the conference title on Sunday, April 26 at noon in Lakewood.
Liz Mower (Harleysville, Pa./Souderton Area) gave the Rams a 10-8 advantage with 9:29 left in regulation after scoring his second goal of the match. Callie Brown cut the Philadelphia lead to one with an unassisted goal at the 1:20 mark. Thirty-two seconds later, Emily Gialanella scored on the man-advantage, assisted by Williams, to tie the score at 10 and send the match to overtime.
Brown—who had three goals and two assists—put Georgian Court in the lead on a man-up goal 1:21 into the first overtime session. Lauren Hartman (Sewell, N.J./Our Lady of Mercy Academy)—who led the Rams with three goals and three assists—knotted the match back up with 47 seconds left before the change over.
There was only one shot taken over the final 3:47 in the overtime, a high shot by Williams with three minutes remaining.
In the sudden death period, Elizabeth Marrosu (Flemington, N.J/Immaculata) had a shot stopped by Stephanie Lehner with 55 seconds gone. Williams scored on the Lions' first shot of the period.
Philadelphia faced a 5-2 deficit after a Silvetta Agosto goal—the second of her three goals—with 5:05 left in the first half. Hartman started a Ram rally with the final goal of the half with 44 seconds remaining. Mower, Marrosu, Hartman, and Isabella DiGnazio (Pittsburgh, Pa./Peters Twp.) scored the first four goals of the second half, over an 11:56 span, to put the Rams in front 7-5.
Back-to-back Williams goals tied the match at eight.
Kathryn Avanzato (Lake Grove, N.Y./Sachem North) had two goals for Philadelphia.
Philadelphia's Felician Branagan (Millville, N.J./Millville) stopped 11 shots. Lehner finished with 10 spots.
The Lions owned a 29-26 shot advantage.
