Box Score 2 PHILADELPHIA – The Philadelphia University softball team recorded a split of Sunday's Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) doubleheader with Dominican (N.Y.) College. The Rams claimed the opener 5-1, but dropped the second game 11-5.
GAME ONE
Philadelphia (15-19, 8-8 CACC) snapped a one-all tie with a three-run fourth inning to take a 4-1 advantage.
Samantha Abromavage (Lake Hopatcong, N.J./Jefferson Twp.) started the frame off with a single and advanced to second on a Monica Levins (Norristown, Pa./Norristown Area) base hit. After Abromavage stole third, Mollie Burrell put Philadelphia in front with a base hit to left and bring in Abromavage. Shannon Weaver (Sinking Spring, Pa./Wilson), the next batter, laid a sacrifice bunt down the third base line and forced a high throw from third baseman Ariana Trembone. The errant throw allowed Levins to score the Rams' third run.
With two outs and the bases loaded, Renee Karakera (Schaumburg, Ill./Schaumburg) danced too far off of first base, drawing a throw from catcher Shannon Haukap. Karakera got in a run down, which ended with all three runners advancing safely, including Burrell from third to increase the lead to 4-1.
Gianna Bliss (Phoenixville, Pa./Phoenixville Area) pushed the advantage to 5-1 with a fifth-inning, one-out single to score Kasia Smith (Waddell, Ariz./Estrella Foothills), who singled to start the inning.
Abromavage kept the Chargers (16-14, 8-4 CACC) off the board over the final two innings to complete the win. She scattered seven hits over seven innings and struck out one to record her sixth win of 2015.
At the plate, Philadelphia had eight hits, two each from Bliss and Burrell.
Alyssa Schwed and Anne Shiebler paced Dominican with two hits apiece.
Madison Dove took the loss, giving up four runs on six hits in four innings.
The Rams took a 1-0 lead on a second inning hit by Burrell. Schwed tied the game up in the top of the third with a single through the right side to plate MacKenzie Wise.
GAME TWO
An eight-run fourth inning by the Chargers proved to be the difference in the nightcap. The Rams owned a 2-1 lead going into the inning, but the Chargers 12 hitters to the plate and plated eight two-out runs to grab a 9-2 advantage. Shannon Haukap started the rally with a RBI single to left center to tie the score. One batter later, Schwed put the Chargers in front 4-2 with a two-run triple to dead center field. Jacqueline Gonzalez roped a two-run triple to left center and Shiebler hit a two-run home run to left field.
Philadelphia got two runs back in the bottom half of the fourth on a Kakareka double and an Emma Haley (Jensen Beach, Fla./Jensen Beach) single.
Dominican scored twice more in the fifth on a Schwed's second triple of the game and a Jillian Regan double.
Katy Sullivan (Holtsville, N.Y./Sachem East) recorded a single in the last of the seventh to score Stephanie Martin (Hanover, Md./Seton Keough) to close out the scoring
Haley led the Philadelphia offense with two of the team's eight hits. Schwed went 3-for-5 for the Chargers.
Jenna Maska earned the complete-game win, striking out five over the seven innings. Smith was the losing pitcher.
