Box Score PHILADELPHIA – Midfielder Liz Mower (Harleysville, Pa./Souderton Area) scored six goals—including her 100th career goal—to lead the Philadelphia University women's lacrosse to a 15-12 Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) win over Dominican (N.Y.) Saturday afternoon on Ravenhill Field.
Elizabeth Marrosu (Flemington, N.J./Immaculata) recorded three goals and three ground balls. Allison Brian (Lancaster, Pa./Hempfield), Kathryn Avanzato (Lake Grove, N.J./Sachem North), and Lauren Hartman (Sewell, N.J./Our Lady of Mercy Academy) all added three-point games. Brian and Avanzato had two goals and one assist, while Hartman posted one goal and two assists.
Philadelphia (3-5, 2-1 CACC) snapped a 9-all tie with four straight goals over a 7:51 stretch to take a 13-9 advantage with 8:14 left. Mower started the surge with back-to-back goals, the first coming on a free-position shot at the 16:05 mark and followed up with an unassisted goal just 31 seconds later. Hartman, off a feed from Brian, pushed the lead to 12-9 with 14:12 to play. Mower capped the run with a free-position goal.
After Gina Sparaco brought Dominican (2-6, 2-1 CACC) back within three, Brian responded with two consecutive goals to give Philadelphia a game-high five-goal cushion (15-10) with 2:34 left.
Philadelphia started the game with goals from Mower and Marrosu in the opening 5:20 to take a 2-0 advantage. The Chargers bounced back, thanks to goals by Sparaco and Christina Brennan, to tie the match up. After swapping goals, Philadelphia scored three times in the final 1:40 of the first half, the first from Corrine Etter and the final two from Mower, to lead 7-4 at the half.
Sparco had three goals and five draw controls to lead the Chargers, while Allison Smithwick (two goals, two assists) and Brennan (three goals, one assist) added four points each.
In goal, Philadelphia's Felicia Branagan (Millville, N.J./Millville) stopped 13 shots in her first career start to the earn win, while Brittany Kernan made nine saves for the Chargers.
Dominican owned a 35-32 shot advantage.
Philadelphia returns to action with a home CACC match against Wilmington (Del.) on Tuesday, March 31 at 4 p.m.
