Box Score LAKEWOOD, N.J. – Attack Allison Brian (Lancaster, Pa./Hempfield) recorded a hat trick for the Philadelphia University women's lacrosse team as the Rams were defeated by Georgian Court, 10-9, in a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) match Wednesday afternoon.
Liz Mower (Harleysville, Pa./Souderton Area) added three points (one goal, two assists) for the Rams (2-5, 1-1 CACC), while Elizabeth Marrosu (Flemington, N.J./Immaculata) and Kathryn Avanzato (Lake Grove, N.Y./Sachem North) contributed a goal and an assist each.
Lauren Hartman (Sewell, N.J./Our Lady of Mercy Academy) opened the scoring with an unassisted goal 3:04 into the match. Then, the Lions (2-5, 1-2 CACC) rattled off six of the next seven goals over a 15:26 span to storm out to a 6-2 lead. Callie Brown started the surge with the first three goals in 3:26, while Silvetta Agosto added two of her own.
Brian's first two goals of the match, at 9:24 and 6:28, pulled the Rams within two (6-4). Agosto recorded the final goal of the half with 20 seconds remaining to put Georgian Court ahead at the half 6-4.
Like the first half, Philadelphia got a quick goal, this time from Brian, to start the second half to close the deficit to two. The Lions answered the early goals with three in a row to take a match-high 10-5 lead with 12:44 remaining.
Corrine Etter (Millville, N.J./Millville) stopped the Georgian Court run with a goal just 44 seconds later and start the Philadelphia comeback attempt. With 10:55 left, Mower scored an unassisted goal 1:55 after Etter's goal. Marrosu converted a free-position shot with 9:43 to play and Elizabeth Seitzinger (Schnecksville, Pa./Parkland) posted an unassisted goal with 8:32 left to make the score 10-9. However, Philadelphia couldn't get another shot past Amanda Cathcart the rest of the way.
Brown paced Georgian Court with three goals and two assists, and Agosto recorded three goals. Taylor Bauerband (two goals, one assist) and Williams (one goal, two assists) had three-point games.
Maria Matteis (Dix Hills, N.Y./Half Hollow Hills) recorded six saves in the loss for Philadelphia, while Cathcart stopped five shots. The Lions owned a 23-18 shot edge.
Philadelphia opens a string of three straight home matches on Saturday, March 28 against CACC opponent Dominican (N.Y.) at noon.
