Box Score PHILADELPHIA – Midfielder Liz Mower (Harleysville, Pa./Souderton Area) recorded a game-high five goals to lead the Philadelphia University women's lacrosse team to an 18-5 victory in its Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) opener over Post Monday afternoon on Ravenhill Field.
Attack Kathryn Avanzato (Lake Grove, N.Y./Sachem North) collected a career-best seven points with three goals and four assists. Midfielder Elizbeth Seitzinger (Schnecksville, Pa./Parkland) contributed three goals and five ground balls. It is Seitzinger's third straight match with at least three goals.
Attack Corrine Etter (Millville, N.J./Millville) added two goals and one assist, while attack Elizabeth Marrosu (Flemington, N.J./Immaculata) and midfielder Liz Wissman (Cinnaminson, N.J./Bishop Eustace) netted two goals.
Midfielder Samantha Ryder (Perkasie, Pa./Pennridge) had seven draw controls and five ground balls.
Philadelphia (2-4, 1-0 CACC) jumped out to a quick 1-0 lead on Mower's first goal of the afternoon with just 1:23 gone. Mower picked up a ground ball after taking shot and deposited the rebound past Post goalie Kathy Walker.
Post (0-5, 0-1 CACC) answered right back at the 27:49 mark as Shannon Young scored on the Eagles' first shot of the contest.
Seventeen seconds later, Seitzinger, with an assist from Etter, but Philadelphia back in the lead and started a string of 11 straight Ram goals that gave the home team complete control of the match.
Seitzinger notched all three of her goals during the surge, while Mower scored three times and Etter and Wissman added two goals.
The Rams owned a match-best 14 goal advantage when Marrosu scored for the second time with 7:05 left to make the score 17-3.
Miranda Polaski and Young scored twice for Post, while Eryka Baez added the fifth goal. Polaski added four ground balls and three draw controls.
Maria Matteis (Dix Hills, N.Y./Half Hollow Hills) recorded two saves in the opening 32:59 to earn the victory (2-4). Felicia Branagan (Millville, N.J./Millville) posted three stops over the duration of the match.
Walker turned aside 15 shots for Post.
Philadelphia attempted a season-high 38 shots, while holding Post to 14 shots.
The Rams head to Georgian Court for a CACC match on Wednesday, March 25 at 3:30 p.m.
