Box Score PHILADELPHIA – Midfielder Isabella DiGnazio (Pittsburgh, Pa./Peters Twp.) scored three goals, including the game-winning 1:17 into overtime, as the Philadelphia University women's lacrosse team knocked off Kutztown 15-11 in a non-conference match Wednesday afternoon on Ravenhill Field.
Philadelphia (1-3) faced an early offensive onslaught from Kutztown (1-2), as the Golden Bears scored six times—two each from Sarah Gabriele and Devan Davis—in the opening 13:55. Attack Lauren Hartman (Sewell, N.J./Our Lady of Mercy Academy) settled the Rams down with a free-position goal at the 11:56 mark to get the home team on the board.
Hartman's goal sparked a run of five straight Philadelphia goals that pulled the Rams within one (6-5) at the half. Hartman led the charge with two goals of her three goals, while DiGnazio, attack Liz Mower (Harleysville, Pa./Souderton Area), and midfielder Elizabeth Seitzinger (Schnecksville, Pa./Parkland) added one goal each.
The momentum of the charge carried over into the second half as Seitzinger—who led the Rams with four goals and one assist—scored twice in the first 5:49 to put Philadelphia in the lead for the first time, 7-6. During that span, the Rams' defense didn't allow a Golden Bear shot.
The two teams traded one-goal leads three times over the final 13:14 of regulation. Gabriele scored Kutztown's final two goals to give the Golden Bears an11-10 advantage with 5:48 remaining. Seitzinger would send the game to overtime as she buried a free-position shot at the 2:52 mark.
Philadelphia started overtime up two players as Kutztown was assessed a pair of yellow cards in the final 20 seconds of regulation. After Philadelphia goalkeeper Maria Matteis (Dix Hills, N.Y./Half Hollow Hills) stoned Gabriele on a free-position attempt, the Rams went back down the field and DiGnazio beat Abby Cox for the eventual game-winner.
Attack Corrine Etter (Millville, N.J./Millville) tacked on a pair of insurance goals, and Mower closed out the scoring with nine seconds left in the overtime period.
Hartman finished the match with three goals and one assist. Midfielder Katie Parent (Millville, N.J./Millville) recorded seven ground balls and three caused turnovers.
Gabriele scored four times for Kutztown, while Madison Carlucci and Davis added two goals and one assist.
Matties tied a career-high with 12 saves for the Rams and Cox had 11 stops for the Golden Bears.
Philadelphia outshot Kutztown 34-27.
Philadelphia returns to action on Saturday, March 21 with its Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference opener against Post at noon on Ravenhill Field.
