Jacobs nets career high in 85-60 win at Concordia (N.Y.)

BRONXVILLE, N.Y. – Senior guard Najah Jacobs (Philadelphia, Pa./Central) scored a career-high 31 points, on 10-of-13 shooting, to lead the Philadelphia University women's basketball team in an 85-60 Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) victory over Concordia (N.Y.) Saturday afternoon in the Meyer Athletic Complex.

Philadelphia improves to 19-6 overall and 13-4 in the CACC. The win, combined with the University of the Sciences' loss against Bloomfield, pulls Philadelphia within one game of first place in the CACC southern division.

Philadelphia and USciences will battle for the division lead on Monday, Feb. 23 at 6 p.m. in the Gallagher Center.

Senior guard Monica Schacker (Doylestown, Pa./Germantown Academy) netted 13 points, while junior guard Bria Young (Philadelphia, Pa./Prep Charter) added 10 points.

Junior forward Mary Newell (Lansdale, Pa./Villa Joseph Marie) contributed 11 points, six rebounds, and three steals in 12 minutes. Junior forward Alex Heck (Willow Grove, Pa./Archbishop Wood) added 10 points.

The Rams shot 47.5 percent (28-of-59) from the field, including 9-of-18 from 3-point range. The team hit a season-best 90.0 percent (20-of-22) of its free throws.

Philadelphia opened up a 15-8 run with six straight points in a 43-second span, capped by a Jacobs layup. Concordia (4-21, 4-14 CACC), with the help of seven Jessica Rosalbo points, went on a 10-0 run to take a 17-15 lead, its only lead of the game.

Philadelphia outscored Concordia 22-7 over the next 7:46 to grab a half-high 37-24 advantage on a Schacker 3-pointer with 28 seconds left in the half. The Rams' defense was the key to the run as they forced the Clippers to shot 4-of-10 from the field and turn the ball over five times.

In the second half, the Rams caught fire, hitting 16 of their 28 attempts (57.1 percent), including six 3-pointers on eight attempts. Jacobs was 7-of-8 from the field, 4-of-4 from three, to record 20 of the team's 48 second-half points.

Jacobs' final basket of the game—a 3-pointer with 3:20 left—gave the Rams a game-high 28-point cushion (82-54).

Rosalbo was Concordia's leading scorer with 19 points. KellyAnn Caravello added 18 points.
