Box Score

WATERBURY, Conn. – The Philadelphia University women's soccer team advanced to the semifinal round of the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) Tournament, defeating Post in penalty kicks 4-1 after a scoreless 110 minutes of action Tuesday afternoon at LaMoy Field.

The Rams (8-8-2) will take on Felician (8-9-0), a 3-2 winner at Holy Family, in the semis on Thursday, Nov. 5 at 1:30 p.m. at Municipal Stadium in Waterbury, Conn. In the regular season meeting, the Rams defeated the host Golden Falcons 1-0 on Oct. 10.

Neither team was able to produce many chances in the opening half as the Eagles (9-6-2) outshot the Rams 2-1. All-CACC second team keeper Courtney Shaw (Langhorne, Pa./Villa Joseph Marie) was called on to make a Katharina Mertz header at 35:51 and a Mertz shot with five seconds left in the half.

The second half featured the same strong defensive play with both squads taking two shots. Post's Laura Morgan and Shaw each made one save to send the game to overtime.

After the first overtime session produced no shots, both teams got off one attempt, but neither made it on target.

Shaw finished the 110 minutes with three saves, while Morgan had one.

All-CACC first team player Carla Chmielewski (Glassboro, N.J./Paul VI) opened the penalty kick shootout with a goal. Mertz, Post's first shooter, missed the net giving the Rams a huge advantage.

After Morgan Foster (Stony Brook, N.Y./Ward Melville) converted her attempt, Shaw came up big by stopping Alex Moeller's shot to give the Rams a 2-0 lead after two rounds.

With Philadelphia leading 3-1, All-CACC first teamer McKenna Burns (Medford, N.J./Shawnee) sent the Rams to the semifinals by making her attempt and clinching the shootout.
