Women's soccer blanks Concordia (N.Y.) for Senior Day win

Box Score

PHILADELPHIA – Carla Chmielewski (Glassboro, N.J./Paul VI) and Amy Heller (Feasterville, Pa./Neshaminy) found the back of the net for the Philadelphia University women's soccer team as the Rams picked up a 2-0 Senior Day victory over Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) opponent Concordia (N.Y.) on Saturday afternoon on Ravenhill Field.

Philadelphia, unbeaten in three straight matches, improves to 7-8-1 overall and 6-4-1 in the CACC. Concordia drops to 1-12-0, 1-11-0 against the conference.

Prior to the opening kick, the women's soccer program honored its five seniors: Courtney Shaw (Langhorne, Pa./Villa Joseph Marie), Sarah VanBuskirk (Fanwood, N.J./Scotch Plains-Fanwood), Nicole Raab (Massapequa Park, N.Y./Massapequa), Angela Ferro (Shelton, Conn./Shelton), and Chmielewski.

Ferro started the sequence for the game's opening goal with a shot that was stopped by the Clippers' Samantha Street at the left post. Street was unable to secure the shot and left a rebound that came to Chmielewski, who chipped the ball into the open right side of the net at the 11:25 mark. The goal is Chmielewski's team-leading sixth goal of the season.

The score remained 1-0 until 75:26 when Heller scored her first collegiate goal after receiving a cross from the right end line from Chmielewski, leaving Heller alone to put the ball into the left side of the net.

Shaw did her part in the Philadelphia goal by making three saves to record her fourth shutout of 2015.

Street stopped eight shots for Concordia.

Philadelphia owned a 25-6 shot advantage.

The Rams welcome Mercy to Ravenhill Field for their non-conference match of the season on Wednesday, Oct. 28 at 4 p.m.
