Box Score PHILADELPHIA – Keeper Courtney Shaw (Langhorne, Pa./Villa Joseph Marie) recorded a season-high 10 saves to help the Philadelphia University women's soccer team earn a scoreless draw against Georgian Court in a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) match Wednesday afternoon on Ravenhill Field.
Philadelphia is now 6-8-1 overall, 5-4-1 in CACC play. Georgian Court goes to 11-2-2, 8-0-1 against the conference.
Shaw—who turned in her first double-digit save performance since making 11 saves against Caldwell on Sept. 21, 2013—was called upon to make three saves in the first half, four more in the second half, and two more in the second overtime session for her third shutout of the season.
The Rams kept Lions' keeper Casey O'Connor equally as busy, putting 10 shots on the Georgian Court goal. Philadelphia had four shots on goal during both regular periods and one in each overtime period.
Julia Teixeira (Trumbull, Conn./Trumbull) did manage to get one shot past O'Connor at the 17:30 mark, however, her flick attempt over the down keeper bounced off the right post and was cleared off the line by a Lion defender. The clearing attempt fell right to Carla Chmielewski (Glassboro, N.J./Paul VI), who had her put back at the left post blocked over the end line by a sliding Georgian Court player.
In the waning seconds of the first overtime, the Rams were awarded a corner kick. Alex Reyes (Vineland, N.J./Vineland) managed to get the kick off before time ran out, but Philadelphia wasn't able to put a shot on the Georgian Court goal.
Georgian Court had a corner kick with four seconds left in the match, which ended up being nullified by a foul at time expired.
The Lions finished the match outshooting the Rams 22-14. Both teams ended up with eight corner kicks.
Philadelphia takes on Concordia (N.Y.) on Saturday, Oct. 24 at noon on Ravenhill Field. Before the match begins, the team will honor their five seniors in a Senior Day ceremony.
