Box Score PHILADELPHIA – Junior forward Patrice Maro (Westmont, N.J./Haddon Twp.) and sophomore forward Shannon Reardigan (Glassboro, N.J./Glassboro) each scored a goal, and junior goalkeeper Courtney Shaw (Langhorne, Pa./Villa Joseph Marie) made seven saves as the Philadelphia University women's soccer team defeated Holy Family 2-0 in the season and Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) opener for both teams Thursday on Tiger Field.
After a scoreless opening 38 minutes, Maro broke the deadlock in the 39th minute by converting a shot from inside the 18-yard box. Freshman midfielder Natasha Vadas (Stewartstown, Pa./York Catholic) assisted on the goal for her first collegiate point.
Reardigan tacked on an insurance goal with a 52nd-minute blast from the right side of the Tiger net after receiving a pass from senior defender Hannah Palese (Haddon Heights, N.J./Haddon Heights).
Shaw made three saves over the final 38 minutes, and got help from a post in the 59th minute and the crossbar in the 73rd minute, to keep the clean sheet in tact.
Holy Family's Sienna Smith stopped eight shots in a losing effort.
The Tigers outshot the Rams, 18-17.
Philadelphia returns to action on Saturday, Sept. 13 with a CACC clash against visiting Dominican (N.Y.) at noon.
