Women's soccer rallies for 2-2 draw with Dowling

Box Score

PHILADELPHIA – The Philadelphia University women's soccer team overcame a two-goal deficit in the final 8:09 of regulation to earn a 2-2 draw with visiting Dowling in a non-conference match Tuesday afternoon on Ravenhill Field.

The Lions (1-2-1) took the two-goal advantage on a 73rd-minute goal from Kelly McQuail. Amber Pindulic found McQuail in the middle of the field with a pass from the left wing. From just outside the box, McQuail unleashed a right-footed shot that found the left side of the goal.

With 8:09 left in the match, midfielder Carla Chmielewski (Glassboro, N.J./Paul VI) got on the board with her first goal of the year and pulled Philadelphia (2-0-1) within 2-1. Chmielewski received a pass from forward Shannon Reardigan and cut into the right side of the box. With Dowling keeper Melissa Guglielmo coming out to challenge, Chmielewski fired a shot over the diving keeper and into the net.

Philadelphia took advantage of a late free kick by back Meagan Yates (Limerick, Pa./Spring-Ford) for the equalizing goal. From 24 yards out, Yates fired the ball into the box from the left side of the penalty area. After bouncing off numerous players, the ball landed at the foot of forward Patrice Maro (Westmont, N.J./Haddon Twp.) who fired the ball into the goal with 40 seconds to play and knotted the score at two.

Dowling's Lindsey Thompson scored 1:19 into the contest as she was the recipient of a mishandled ball by Philadelphia keeper Courtney Shaw (Langhorne, Pa./Villa Joseph Marie).

Guglielmo finished the match with six saves, while Shaw tallied four stops. Philadelphia outshot Dowling 20-9.

Philadelphia heads to Goldey-Beacom for a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference contest on Thursday, Sept. 18 at 3 p.m.
