Ferro, Graus lead women's soccer in 2-0 win over Dominican (N.Y.)

Box Score

PHILADELPHIA – Junior forward Angela Ferro (Shelton, Conn./Shelton) and sophomore midfielder Morgan Graus (Rochester, N.Y./Hilton) both registered their first goal of the season as the Philadelphia University women's soccer team shutout Dominican (N.Y.) 2-0 in a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) match Saturday afternoon on Ravenhill Field.

Philadelphia is 2-0-0 overall and 2-0-0 against the CACC, while Dominican dips to 1-3-0 overall and 1-1-0 in conference play.

Ferro opened the scoring on a ninth-minute corner kick. Dominican keeper Gina Yanette came off her line to try and grab the corner kick taken by junior midfielder Carla Chmielewski (Glassboro, N.J./Paul VI). The ball went off of Yanette's hands and landed at the feet of Ferro, who deposited the ball into the net and gave Philadelphia a 1-0 lead.

The match remained 1-0 until the 54th minute when Graus was able to extend the lead to 2-0. Graus was the recipient of a Yanette punch-out about 20 yards from the goal. With the net open, Graus ripped a shot into the open left side of the net for the insurance tally.

Philadelphia's backline played very well and held the visitors to just three shot attempts. Junior keeper Courtney Shaw (Langhorne, Pa./Villa Joseph Marie) did not record a save in the win.

The Rams took 19 shots. Yanette made four saves, three in the second half, for the Chargers.

Philadelphia hosts Dowling in a non-conference match on Tuesday, Sept. 16 at 4 p.m.
