PHILADELPHIA – The Philadelphia University softball won a pair of one-run games to sweep Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) opponent Bloomfield Saturday afternoon. The Rams outlasted the Deacons in game one, 7-6 in nine innings, and took the nightcap, 2-1.

Philadelphia improves to 18-7 overall and 9-6 in the CACC. The Rams have matched last season's total of CACC wins.

Bloomfield falls to 18-14 overall, 11-9 against the conference.

Senior second baseman Meaghan Lewis (Binghamton, N.Y./Chenango Valley), senior center fielder Samantha Riabko (Haddon Twp., N.J./Haddon Twp.), and junior catcher Stephanie Martin (Hanover, Md./Seton Keough) all had three hits to lead the Philadelphia offense.

Lewis now has 161 career hits and is four away from passing Jen Richard for first on the all-time hit list.

GAME ONE
The Rams overcame deficits of 5-1 and 6-5 to take the opener.

Trailing 5-1 in the bottom of the fifth, Philadelphia's offense came to life with a two-out rally to score four runs and tie the game at five. With runners at second and third, Lewis delivered a single to center to plate Martin and freshman shortstop Monica Levins (Norristown, Pa./Norristown Area). After sophomore right fielder Kasia Smith (Waddell, Ariz./Estrella Foothills) drew a walk, Riabko roped a triple into the right field corner to bring around Lewis and Smith to knot up the contest.

The game remained tied until the ninth when Bloomfield took a 6-5 lead on a sacrifice fly by Angela Hauser.

Philadelphia fought back in the bottom of the ninth to take the win. With freshman third baseman Meghan Loughery (Phoenixville, Pa./Phoenixville Area) at second thanks to the international tiebreak rule, Martin laid down a sacrifice bunt to move Loughery over to third.

Lewis made the bunt pay off as she brought Loughery in with a single to center field to tie things up at six.

Lewis was able to move over to third by stealing second and taking third on a Smith ground out to second back.

Riabko delivered the game-winning hit by singling through the middle of the infield to plate Lewis.

Sophomore pitcher Renee Kakareka (Schaumburg, Ill./Schaumburg) was strong in relief to earn her third win of the year (3-0). In 6.1 innings, she fanned five and allowed one unearned run on six hits.

Stephanie Miller took the loss (9-3) for Bloomfield.

Offensively, Lewis and Riabko both had two hits and three RBIs, while Martin had three hits in four at-bats.

The Deacons' Toni Coleman and Miller had three hits each, including RBI singles in a three-run third inning.

GAME TWO
Smith was the star of the second game as she tossed a complete-game two-hitter and fanned seven to pick up win number five (5-3). She no-hit the Deacons through the first 4.2 innings.

Philadelphia scored both of its runs in the home half of the second inning on a one-out double by sophomore first baseman Mollie Burrell (Harleysville, Pa./Souderton Area) and a two-out single by Kakareka.

In the sixth, Bloomfield recorded an unearned run thanks to a sacrifice fly by Coleman.

Six Rams had one hit in the victory.

Kaila Dugger suffered the loss (2-2), allowing two runs on five hits in three innings.

Philadelphia heads to Molloy for a non-conference doubleheader on Sunday, April 13 at 1 p.m.
