Women's basketball runs past Felician 66-46

RUTHERFORD, N.J. – An 18-0 run that spanned both halves powered the Philadelphia University women's basketball team to a 66-46 victory over Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) opponent Felician Saturday afternoon in Job Gym.

With the score tied at 20, Alex Heck (Willow Grove, Pa./Archbishop Wood)—who had a team-high 13 points for the Rams (5-1, 2-1 CACC)—started the game-altering surge by hitting a layup with 2:19 left in the first half. Najah Jacobs (Philadelphia, Pa./Central) and Rachel Day (Horsham, Pa./Archbishop Wood) each tacked on a 3-pointer to extend the lead to 28-20 at the break.

Tori Arnao (Newtown, Pa./Archbishop Wood) scored six straight points opening 1:27 of the second half to push the game up to 34-20. After a Heck layup widen the gap to 16, Monica Schacker (Doylestown, Pa./Germantown Academy) recorded the final two points of the run with two successful free throws at the 16:21 mark.

The Rams shot 7-of-13 during the run, while the Golden Falcons (1-6, 0-3 CACC) were 0-of-9 from the field and turned the ball over three times.

A Mary Newell (Lansdale, Pa./Villa Joseph Marie) drained a layup with 11:48 left to give Philadelphia a game-high 21-point cushion (50-29).

Felician managed to close the Philadelphia lead to 10 (51-41) with a 12-1 run over a 4:22 span. Eliana Scanlon scored eight of her game-high 18 points during the run.

The Rams responded nicely with 11 straight points, five from Jacobs and four from Heck, to reestablish a 21-point lead (62-41).

Jacobs finished 12 points and four assists. Schacker recorded her first career double-double with 11 points and a career-high 10 rebounds. Arnao posted 10 points and game-high 12 rebounds.

Danielle Gibson added 15 points for Felician.

Philadelphia controlled the paint, winning the rebounding (46-38) and the points-in-the-paint (38-14) battles. The Rams shot 37.5 percent (27-of-72), while the Golden Falcons hit 33.3 percent (16-of-48) of its attempts.

The Rams will open a three-game homestand on Tuesday, Dec. 9 against Lincoln (Pa.) at 6 p.m.
