Box Score PHILADELPHIA -- The Philadelphia University women's basketball team had four players score in double figures, but Holy Family hit two late free throws to give the Tigers a 69-67 Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) win over the Rams Wednesday night in the Campus Center.
Guard Najah Jacobs (Philadelphia, Pa./Central) scored 13 of her team-high 17 points in the second half for Philadelphia (4-1, 1-1 CACC). Jacobs recorded eight points during a 20-8 run, including a free throw to cap the surge with 2:42 left, that gave the Rams a 65-63 advantage.
On the following possession, Holy Family's Kasey Woetzel, who finished with a game-high 23 points, drained a layup at the 2:24 mark to tie the score at 65.
With 10 seconds left and the score tied at 67, Woetzel got fouled and then stepped to the free throw at hit two free throws to put Holy Family (4-3, 2-0 CACC) in front by two.
Philadelphia had two looks at the basket to force overtime on its last possession. Jacobs had her attempt blocked Abigail Iannotti and forward Tori Arnao (Newtown, Pa./Archbishop Wood) missed a shot at the buzzer.
Arnao finished the game with her 12 points and 13 rebounds for her first double-double of the season. Guard Bria Young (Philadelphia, Pa./Prep Charter) poured in 14 points, while guard Monica Schacker (Doylestown, Pa./Germantown Academy) added 10 points.
In the first half, the Rams owned a 23-11 cushion at the 7:05 mark when Young capped a 9-1 run with a layup. Holy Family outscored Philadelphia 23-7 over the duration of the half to take 34-30 lead at the half.
Jill Conroy added 12 points for the Tigers.
The Rams shot 46.7 percent (28-of-60) from the field, while the Tigers conncted on 40.0 percent (28-of-70) of their attempts.
Philadelphia heads to Felician for a CACC contest on Saturday, Dec. 6 at 3:30 p.m.
