Box Score WATERBURY, Conn. – The Philadelphia University men's soccer team will make its second straight trip to the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) Tournament championship match after knocking off Caldwell 4-1 in a semifinal round showdown Thursday morning on LaMoy Field.
The Rams—the defending conference champions—are 15-4-1 overall and extend their winning streak to five. It is the first time that the program has recorded 15 victories in a season since 1982.
Philadelphia will face Wilmington (Del.), a 2-1 double overtime winner against Dominican (N.Y.), for the CACC title on Saturday, Nov. 8 at 1:30 p.m. on LaMoy Field. The Rams and Wildcats met on Oct. 31 with host Philadelphia pulling out a 1-0 win on an 88th-minute penalty kick.
Caldwell ends its 2014 season at 13-6-0.
After a scoreless opening 29 minutes, Philadelphia struck twice in a 22-second span to take a 2-0 advantage.
All-CACC first team selection Victor Chagonda (Harare, Zimbabwe/St. George's) got on the Rams on the board at the 29:37 mark with his team-leading 10th goal of the season. Ishmaiah Calwrie (Baltimore, Md./Randallstown) found Chagonda—the program's first 10-goal scorer since 2009—with a centering pass just inside the 18, and Chagonda did the rest, depositing the ball into the open net.
The lead grew to 2-0 when a Caldwell defender accidently put the ball in the Cougar net in an attempt to clear a Ram cross from deep inside the penalty area.
Forty-four seconds into the second half, Seiji Rose (Toulouse, France/Lycee Climatique et Sportif Pierre de Coubertin) scored his fifth goal of 2014 to give Philadelphia a 3-0 cushion. Rose was the recipient of a loose ball 24 yards away of the goal, and found the back of the net with a low shot.
Caldwell got on the board with its only goal thanks to a Philadelphia own goal at 51:30.
Jordan Lynch (Brampton, Ontario/St. Marguerite D'Youville) produced the final tally, his fifth, with an unassisted goal with 22:35 left in the contest.
Thomas Attamante (West Orange, N.J./West Orange) made two saves to improve to 14-2-1. Michael Hartmann stopped eight saves for Caldwell.
Philadelphia outshot Caldwell 19-4.
