Van Antwerp scores twice in women's soccer's 3-0 win at Wilmington (Del.)

NEWARK, Del. – Forward Michaela Van Antwerp (Andover, Mass./Andover) recorded her first career two-goal game to lead the Philadelphia University women's soccer team in a 3-0 win against Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) opponent Wilmington (Del.) Tuesday afternoon at the WU Athletics Complex.

Philadelphia improves to 7-1-1 and remains perfect in conference play at 6-0-0. The Rams have won their last four matches, all by shutout. Wilmington is now 2-8-0 overall, 2-5-0 against the CACC.

In the 23rd minute, Van Antwerp turned defense into offense to record the first goal of the match. She stole the ball from a Wildcat defender in the penalty area, and then fired a shot over keeper Julia Brown to give Philadelphia a 1-0 lead at the 22:14 mark.

Van Antwerp used her head to double the Rams' advantage with a 53rd-minute goal. Forward Shannon Reardigan (Glassboro, N.J./Glassboro) play a high-cross from the right endline and found Van Antwerp at the far post. Van Antwerp headed the ball into the open net for the insurance goal.

Midfielder Carla Chmielewski (Glassboro, N.J./Paul VI) tacked on a third goal, her fourth of the year, with a blast from 25-yards out with 2:47 to play.

Keeper Courtney Shaw (Langhorne, Pa./Villa Joseph Marie) recorded her seventh win and shutout of the year by stopping four Wilmington shots. Brown made six saves for the Wildcats.

The Rams outshot the Wildcats 18-8.

Philadelphia welcomes Caldwell to Ravenhill Field for a rescheduled CACC match on Thursday, Oct. 9 at 3:30 p.m.
