Women's soccer defeated by Mercy, 1-0

DOBBS FERRY, N.Y. – The Philadelphia University women's soccer team was knocked off by host Mercy 1-0 in a non-conference match Wednesday afternoon on Mercy Field.

The Rams are now 10-4-1 overall, while the Mavericks improve to 14-1-0.

The match was scoreless until the 73rd minute when Ashley Johnson scored her first goal of the season. Johnson headed home an Alyssa Iannuzzi cross that came from outside the 18-yard box.

Philadelphia keeper Courtney Shaw (Langhorne, Pa./Villa Joseph Marie) did all she could as she stopped a season-high nine shots.

The Mavericks' Nicole Augustine recorded two saves to earn the shutout.

Mercy outshot Philadelphia 19-4.

Philadelphia comes home to face Felician in a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference match on Saturday, Oct. 25 at noon.
