Women's soccer locks up CACC Tournament spot with 1-0 win at Georgian Court

LAKEWOOD, N.J. – Forward Angela Ferro (Shelton, Conn./Shelton) scored a 61st-minute goal to give the Philadelphia University women's soccer team a 1-0 victory over host Georgian Court in a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) match Wednesday afternoon.

With the victory, Philadelphia improves to 9-2-1 overall and 8-1-0 in conference play. The Rams' 24 points have secured them a spot in the CACC Tournament for the ninth straight season.

Georgian Court is now 8-4-1 overall, 6-3-0 against the CACC.

Ferro posted her fifth goal of the year at the 60:28 mark as she one-touched a Carla Chmielewski (Glassboro, N.J./Paul VI) pass into the Lions' net.

Keeper Courtney Shaw (Langhorne, Pa./Villa Joseph Marie) posted her conference-leading ninth shutout of 2014 with a four-save performance.

The Lions' Casey O'Connor made eight saves in a losing effort.

Philadelphia owned a 17-8 shot advantage.

The Rams head to Concordia (N.Y.) for a conference match on Saturday, Oct. 18 at noon.
