Men's tennis earns 9-0 wins over Bloomfield and Caldwell

CALDWELL, N.J. – The Philadelphia University men's tennis team earned a pair of 9-0 victories over Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) opponents Bloomfield and Caldwell Sunday at the Caldwell College Tennis Courts.

With the two victories, Philadelphia improves 8-9 overall and 3-1 against the CACC.

In the morning match against Bloomfield, Kyle Burke (Wakefield, R.I./South Kingston) and Chris Casamassima (Franklin Square, N.Y./St. Mary's) won the No. 1 match 8-2, Ayman Barakat (Kharkiv, Ukraine/Kharkiv Specialized English School #3) and Dylan Bhaerman (Columbus, Ohio/Pickerington North) teamed up for an 8-1 win in the No. 2 match, and the No. 3 team of Nail Rachidi (Meknes, Morocco/Emile Anouar) and Long Vo (Harleysville, Pa./Souderton Area) won 8-0.

Burke knocked off Ceran Messam, 8-6, in No. 1 singles, while Rachidi took the No. match, 8-2, over Jamel Shuler. Casamassima and Josh Greenberg (Miami, Fla./Miami Country Day)were 8-1 winners in No. 3 and 6 singles, respectively. Vo and Matt Germani (Blackwood, N.J./Highland Reg.) were triumphant by an 8-0 scores.

The No. 2 doubles tandem of Rachidi and Barakat and the No. 3 team of Germani and Long kicked off the match against Caldwell with 8-0 wins. Burke and Casamassima completed the doubles' sweep with an 8-1 victory over Juan Arencibia and Andrej Bozovic.

Kyle went on to knock off Bozovic in the No. 1 singles, 6-0, 6-3. In No. 2 singles action, Barakat defeated Chris Long by a 6-1, 6-0 score. Rachidi outlasted Arencibia for a win at No. 3, 7-6 (9-7), 6-4. Casamassima was a 6-2, 6-3 winnver over Al Navas in the No. 4 match. Vo took out George Mikula 9-7 at No. 5. In the No. 6 match, Greenberg was an 8-0 winner over Cole Downs.

Philadelphia returns home to take on Concordia (N.Y.) in a CACC match on Tuesday, April 9 at 3:30 p.m.
