PHILADELPHIA – The Philadelphia University softball team was swept by visiting Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) opponent Dominican (N.Y.) Saturday afternoon. The game scores were 4-3 and 14-5.

Philadelphia falls to 17-25 overall and 9-13 in the CACC, while Dominican goes to 25-17 overall and a perfect 20-0 against the conference.

With the game tied at three in the sixth, the Chargers' Paige Berzak laid down a bunt—which she beat out for a hit—to safely bring Ashley Corrao home from third for the eventual game-winning RBI. Corrao opened the inning off with a double and advanced to third on an error

Philadelphia overcame an early 3-0 deficit to get back in the game. In the fourth, sophomore second baseman Andrea Schell (Glen Gardner, N.J./Voorhees) hit a home run with freshman pitcher Kasia Smith (Waddell, Ariz./Estrella Foothills) on base to pull the Rams within one. The home run was Schell's fifth of the year.

Philadelphia knotted the game up in the fifth when junior third baseman Meaghan Lewis (Binghamton, N.J./Chenango Valley) sprinted home from third on a wild pitch.

Kimberly Ragazzo was the winning pitcher after entering the circle in the fourth. She allowed one run on four hits and struck out one in two innings. Delaney Childers was perfect over the final two innings to get the save.

Ragazzo and Childers hit back-to-back solo home runs in the top of the fourth to give Dominican a 3-0 lead.

Smith took the complete-game loss as she allowed the four runs—three earned on seven hits—and fanned three.

Offensively, sophomore shortstop Stephanie Martin (Hanover, Md./Seton Keough), sophomore left fielder Emma Haley (Jensen Beach, Fla./Jensen Beach) all had two hits for the Rams.

In game two, the Chargers scored 10 times over the first three innings, including seven runs in the first, to take a 10-0 lead.

Freshman pitcher Sarah Gardner (Hanover, Pa./New Oxford) got the Rams on the board in the bottom of the third as she delivered a two-out single to left center to bring around Smith. Schell scored the second run on a passed ball.

After Dominican scored a single run in the top of the fifth, freshman catcher Mollie Burrell (Harleysville, Pa./Souderton Area) knocked home two runs with a one-out single in the bottom half of the inning to make the score 11-4.

Lewis scored Philadelphia's final run on a wild pitch in the sixth.

Freshman left fielder Renee Karakera (Schaumburg, Ill./Schaumburg) and Burrell had two hits each for the Rams. Seven Chargers had at least two hits.

Childers struck out six over seven innings to get the win. Sophomore Samantha Abromavage (Lake Hopatcong, N.J./Jefferson Twp.) took the loss.

Philadelphia closes out its home slate with a non-conference doubleheader against St. Thomas Aquinas on Sunday, April 21 at noon.
