Men's tennis claims CACC opener against USciences, 6-3

PHILADELPHIA – The Philadelphia University men's tennis team started off Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference play on a positive note as it knocked off the University of the Sciences, 6-3, Wednesday afternoon on the McNeil Field Courts.

The Rams improved to 5-7 overall and are 1-0 in the CACC. The Devils drop to 5-3 overall, 2-1 against the conference.

Philadelphia jumped out to a 2-1 lead after doubles play. The No. 2 tandem of Kyle Burke (Wakefield, R.I./South Kingston) and Chris Casamassima (Franklin Square, N.Y./St. Mary's) won the first point of the match, 8-3 over William Metz and Julian Katzev. Dylan Bhaerman (Columbus, Ohio/Pickerington North) and Long Vo (Harleysville, Pa./Souderton Area) took the No. 3 match against Steven Galerkin and Paul Bedway, 8-4.

Bhaerman claimed Philadelphia's first singles point with a 6-4, 6-1 triumph over Katzev in the No. 4 match. Burke gave the Rams a 4-3 lead as he outlasted Jake Sosokin in No. 1 singles action, 6-4, 1-6, 7-6 (7-5).

Casamassina clinched the match as he took down Metz, 6-2, 6-3 in the No. 5 match.

Vo earned the final point with a 8-3 win over Peter Micu in the No. 6 match.

Philadelphia heads to Millersville for a non-conference match on Thursday, March 28 at 3 p.m.
