Box Score PHILADELPHIA – The Philadelphia University women's basketball team had five players hit double-figures and never trailed in its 80-60 Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) win over visiting Wilmington (Del.) Tuesday night in the Gallagher Center.
Freshman forward Tori Arnao (Newtown, Pa./Archbishop Wood) led the Rams with 20 points, on 10-of-16 shooting, a game-high 17 rebounds, three assists and three steals. It was her 11th double-double of the season.
Sophomore guard Najah Jacobs (Philadelphia, Pa./Central) and freshman forward Alex Heck (Willow Grove, Pa./Archbishop Wood) both netted 13 points. Heck's 13 points are a career-high.
Senior guard Taylor Peltzer (Holland, Pa./Archbishop Wood) and sophomore guard Monica Schacker (Doylestown, Pa./Germantown Academy) contributed 10 points each. Peltzer narrowly missed a double-double with nine rebounds.
Tenicia Spence scored a game-high 31 points on 11-of-21 shooting and grabbed seven rebounds for Wilmington (3-20, 1-15 CACC).
Philadelphia (11-10, 7-7 CACC) stormed out of the gate with a 19-4 run in the opening 8:19. Jacobs scored all eight of her first-half points during the run, while Schacker added a pair of three-pointers. Defensively, the Rams held the Wildcats to 2-of-12 shooting and forced eight turnovers.
A Heck jumper with 8:49 left in the half capped a 6-0 run and gave the Rams a half-high 17 points (27-10). Philadelphia's lead was trimmed to 43-33 on a Cari Callaway free throw with 0.3 seconds left in the half.
The Rams' lead got as low as five (51-46) when Lauren Brown drained a lay-up with 14:50 to play. With the Philadelphia lead sitting at 53-48, Jacobs canned a jumper to start a 27-10 surge that extended the gap to a game-high 22 points (80-58) with 1:34 to go. Arnao and Heck both scored six points in the run.
Philadelphia finished the game shooting 42.3 percent (30-of-71) from the field, while Wilmington connected at a 34.4 percent (22-of-64) rate. The Rams also won the inside battle with a 45-42 rebounding edge and a 34-16 points-in-the-paint advantage.
Philadelphia also dished out a season-high 22 assists.
The Rams return to action with a rescheduled contest against conference foe Dominican (N.Y.) on Thursday, Feb. 14 at 5:30 p.m.
