Box Score LAKEWOOD, N.J. – The Philadelphia University women's soccer team is in the semifinal round of the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) Tournament for the third straight season after defeating host Georgian Court, 3-0, in the first round Tuesday afternoon.
Philadelphia, who entered the tournament as the six seed, improves to 7-9-3 overall. The Rams will face second seeded Caldwell—a 4-0 winner over Bloomfield in its quarterfinal—on Thursday, Nov. 7 at 1:30 p.m. at the WU Athletics Complex in New Castle, Del. During the regular season, the Cougars defeated the Rams 3-1 on Sept. 21 in Caldwell.
Georgian Court ends its 2013 season at 10-6-3.
Junior forward Michaela Van Antwerp (Andover, Mass./Andover) opened the scoring in the 16th minute as she scored on a rebound. Senior forward Kristen Ferguson (Haddonfield, N.J./Haddonfield) took the first shot, which was stopped by Casey O'Connor, and the carom landed at the feet of Van Antwerp, who followed it up with her team-leading sixth goal of the year.
Ferguson doubled the Ram advantage in the 69th minute after converting a rebound left after a shot by Van Antwerp. It was Ferguson's second goal of the season.
Freshman forward Andrea Neski (Briarcliff Manor, N.Y./Ossining) netted Philadelphia's final goal—her third goal of 2013—in the 86th minute.
Sophomore goalkeeper Courtney Shaw (Langhorne, Pa./Villa Joseph Marie) stopped six shots for her seventh clean sheet of the season.
O'Connor finished with 10 saves for Georgian Court.
Philadelphia owned a 21-11 shot advantage.
