Men's soccer knocks off Molloy, 3-2, in double overtime

ROCKVILLE CENTRE, N.Y. – Junior forward Dominic Rodriguez (Pennsauken, N.J./Pennsauken) scored 2:02 into the second overtime session to give the Philadelphia University men's soccer team a 3-2 victory over host Molloy in the regular season finale on Saturday at the Dean G. Skelos Sports Complex.

Philadelphia ended the regular season with an overall record of 10-7-1—the team's first season with double-digit wins since 2010 (12). The Rams earned the three seed for the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference Tournament and will host Chestnut Hill in the first round on Monday, Nov. 4 at 2 p.m.

Rodriguez scored his second goal of the match—third of the season—in the second overtime with a shot that found the lower left corner of the net after getting a pass from freshman midfielder Armando Canela (Marlborough, Mass./Marlborough).

At the 69:08 mark, Rodriguez tied the match at two with a blast from in tight that made its way into the left side of the goal.

Sophomore midfielder Patrick Groh (Macungie, Pa./Emmaus) put the Rams in front 1-0 with a shot into the upper right corner of the net just 4:30 into the contest.

Molloy (5-9-3) responded with a Jovani Ramos goal from 35-yard out at the 21:04 mark to tie the match at one. Anthony Morais scored with just 1:02 left before halftime to give the Lions a 2-1 lead.

After entering the match at the start of the second half, junior goalkeeper Neil Kwiatkowski (Schenectady, N.Y./Duanesburg) made two saves over the final 57:20 to earn the win. Junior keeper Thomas Attamante (West Orange, N.J./West Orange) played the first 45 minutes.

Ryan Fackner made three saves in the first half for Molloy, while Mario Gagliano didn't make any saves in the second half or overtime.

Both teams attempted 15 shots.
