Box Score PHILADELPHIA – The Philadelphia University women's soccer team entered Tuesday afternoon's match-up against Wilmington (Del.) needing three points to keep its Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) Tournament hopes alive. When the final whistle blew, the Rams secured those crucial points with a 2-0 victory on Ravenhill Field.
With the win, Philadelphia is now 5-8-3 overall and has 14 points with a 4-5-2 mark in CACC play. The Rams close out conference play with another must-win againstt visiting Bloomfield on Thursday, Oct. 31 at 3:30 p.m. A Philadelphia victory will earn the team a spot in the CACC Championship Tournament, while a loss or tie eliminates the Rams from postseason play.
Freshman midfielder Taylor Mysza (Doylestown, Pa./Central Bucks East) scored her first collegiate goal at the 26:26 mark on a free kick to get the Rams on the board. Mysza bent her shot around the left side of the Wilmington wall, and into the goal off of the hands of Wilmington keeper Julia Brown.
Philadelphia pushed hard in the second half to get the insurance goal, and was finally able to break through at 85:33. Senior midfielder Janine Cascio (Kings Park, N.Y./Kings Park) played a long ball over the Wilmington defense that was tracked down by senior forward Michaela Van Antwerp (Andover, Mass./Andover). Van Antwerp tucked her shot under Brown for the breakaway goal, tying her with Cascio for the team lead in goals with four.
Sophomore goalkeeper Courtney Shaw (Langhorne, Pa./Villa Joseph Marie) was called upon to make two saves for her fifth shutout of the year.
Brown finished with five stops for Wilmington (5-11-1, 5-6-1 CACC).
The Rams outshot the Wildcats, 22-4.
