Lady Rams' offense stays hot in 5-0 victory at Concordia (N.Y.)

BRONXVILLE, N.Y. – Midfielder Melissa Copeland scored a pair of goals during a five-goal first half as the Philadelphia University women's soccer team defeated host Concordia (N.Y.), 5-0, in a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) match Saturday afternoon.

Leading 2-0, Copeland buried a shot in the upper-left corner from the top of the penalty area in the 32 minute. Just over five minutes later, Copeland struck again on a breakaway to give the Lady Rams (2-2-0, 2-0-0 CACC) a 4-0 advantage.  Defender Denna Allen and midfielder Michaela Van Antwerp assisted on the goal.

Forward Patrice Maro netted a breakaway goal of her own, with an assist from defender Lauren Pfister, in the 41st minute for Philadelphia's fifth goal.

Philadelphia keepers Kelli Kowalewski and Courtney Shaw shared the shutout for the second straight match. Kowalewski started in goal and played the first 55:12, making one save. Shaw wasn't called upon to record a stop in the final 34:48.

Forward Angela Ferro opened the scoring with an unassisted goal in the eighth minute.

Midfielder Trisha Sileo made it a 2-0 contest after heading in a pass from midfielder Kristen Ferguson during the 15th minute.

Clippers' (0-3-0, 0-2-0 CACC) keeper Johana Vargas stopped four shots. Philadelphia outshot Concordia, 18-1.

Philadelphia heads to Georgian Court for a CACC match on Wednesday, Sept. 12 at 3:30 p.m.
