Box Score PHILADELPHIA – The Philadelphia University men's soccer team's season-opening unbeaten streak came to an end after a 2-0 loss to visiting East Stroudsburg in a non-conference match Wednesday afternoon on Ravenhill Field.
The Rams had opened the season by going unbeaten in their first eight matches, the longest streak since the 1989 team had a nine-game string. Philadelphia—who entered the match fifth in the National Soccer Coaches Association of America poll and receiving votes in the organization's national poll—is now 4-1-4.
Wesley Fossile opened the scoring in the 13th minute with a 20-yard shot that found the upper right corner of the net to give the Warriors (2-6-0) a 1-0 lead. Fossile was sprung by a long pass over the Ram defense by Nemanja Nikolic.
Daniel Snyder struck in a 21st minute for East Stroudsburg on a low shot from about 30 yards out that bounced off of keeper Thomas Attamante.
In the second half, the Rams turned up the pressure by taking 10 shots at the East Stroudsburg net. Forward Jakob Passernig forced Warrior keeper Callum Hampson to make a diving save at the near post in the 72nd minute. Two minutes later, midfielder Sean Crossland fired a laser just over the crossbar. Another diving stop from Hampson, who finished with three saves, was needed on a shot taken by forward Ishmaiah Calwrie in the 77th minute.
Attamante, who had two saves, was called upon to make a diving one-hand save on a breakaway to deny East Stroudsburg's Derek Lopez.
The Rams owned a 13-6 shot advantage and a 9-1 corner kick edge.
Philadelphia will look to rebound with a Homecoming Day Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference match against Felician on Saturday, Sept. 29 at 2:30 p.m.
