Men's soccer's unbeaten streak hits seven after a 3-1 win over Wilmington (Del.)

Box Score

PHILADELPHIA – The Philadelphia University men's soccer team scored a pair of second half goals to defeat visiting Wilmington (Del.) University, 3-1, in a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) Wednesday afternoon and extend its unbeaten streak to seven.

With the win, the Rams—ranked sixth in the National Soccer Coaches Association of America Division II East Region Poll—improve to 4-0-3 overall and 2-0-2 in the CACC. The last time Philadelphia opened a season with seven straight results was 1999, when the team went 6-0-1.

Wilmington is now 2-5-0 overall and 1-3-0 against the conference.

Forward Jakob Passernig broke a one-all tie in the 69th minute to put the Rams in front. Midfielder Cesar Romero played a through ball ahead to Passernig. Passernig beat the last Wildcat defender to the ball and chipped it over a sprawled out keeper to score his third goal of 2012.

Forward Patrick Groh put the final nail in the coffin with an 88th-minute tally to make the score 3-1 in the Rams favor. Forward Ryan Schroy forced a turnover at the edge of the Wilmington penalty area. Schroy played a ball which sprung Groh and allowed him to have an open shot at the left side of the net. The goal was Groh's second of the season.

Otis Williams put the Rams in a 1-0 hole as he headed in a 17th-minute centering pass from Tom Quaranta. The goal was Williams' first of the year

Forward Ishmaiah Calwrie responded in the 22nd minute with his second goal of the year to tie the score. Keeper Neil Kwaitkowski drop kicked the ball over midfield and Calwrie won the ball in the air. Calwrie turned with the ball and was on a breakaway where he deposited the ball into the left side of the goal.

Aside from having an assist on the equalizer, Kwaitkowski came up with a career-high nine saves for the Rams. Wilmington's Chad Jenkins made one save.

Philadelphia will look to remain unbeaten as it tangles with Nyack, the defending conference championship, on Saturday, Sept. 22 at 2:30 p.m. in New York.
