Lady Rams fall to Southern Connecticut in season opener, 1-0

PHILADELPHIA – The Philadelphia University women's soccer team was shutout by visiting Southern Connecticut State, 1-0, in the season opener for school teams Friday afternoon on Ravenhill Field.

The game's lone goal come at the 59:59 mark off the right foot of Bryana Poulin. Poulin volleyed a centering pass from Sarah Brochu into the right part of the goal.

Philadelphia (0-1-0) keeper Kelli Kolaweski was under a fair amount of pressure during the second half having to make five saves, including a diving save to her right in the 67th minute to deny Kayla Orozco and keep the score at 1-0. The Owls (1-0-0) attempted 12 of the 15 total shots in the second 45 minutes.

The Lady Rams controlled a majority of the play in the opening half, but couldn't push anything past Southern Connecticut's Elizabeth Nickerson who made four saves in the half. Nickerson finished the game with five saves.

Philadelphia returns to the pitch Saturday, Sept. 1 with a non-conference road test against West Chester at noon.
