Box Score 2 PHILADELPHIA, Pa. – Second baseman Meaghan Lewis' bases-loaded triple in the bottom of the fifth proved to be the difference as the Philadelphia University softball team earned a 5-4 win in game two of a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) doubleheader with visiting Wilmington (Del.) Thursday. The Wildcats took game one, 3-1.
The Lady Rams (6-21, 4-10 CACC) were down 4-2 when they put together a two-out rally in the fifth. Center fielder Alison Glaser, left fielder Emma Haley and pitcher Samantha Abromavage strung together back-to-back-to-back singles to load the bases for Lewis. Lewis cleared the bases with her second triple of the year, which hit the base of the fence in left field.
The trio of Abromavage, Kaitlin MacQueen and Nicole Troisi made the lead stand up in the final two innings. Abromavage went 5.2 innings, struck out three, and allowed four runs (three earned) on six hits to earn the win.
MacQueen entered the game in the sixth, inheriting runners at first and third with one out. She got a strike out and a pop-out to get out of the jam. MacQueen tossed 1.1 innings of one-hit ball before giving way to Troisi.
Troisi came on with two outs and runners on first and second in the seventh. After issuing a walk to load the bases, she induced a line-out to end the game and record her first save.
First baseman Margo DeBarardinis, Glaser, Haley and Abromavage all had two hits for the Lady Rams.
Wilmington (17-16, 9-1 CACC) took a 3-0 lead in the third on a bases-loaded triple by shortstop Christin Headley.
Abromavage got two of the runs back in the bottom half of the third with a single up the middle.
The Wildcats' fourth run came on a fourth-inning single by left fielder Kristin Garvin, who went 2-for-3 in the game.
Chelsea Botsch took the loss in a complete-game effort. She struck out four and gave up 10 hits.
Wilmington took game one by scoring single runs in each of the first three innings. Headley had a sacrifice fly in the first and a solo homer in the third. Third baseman Brooke Berger recorded a RBI single in the second.
Philadelphia's run came in the second on Lewis' fourth homer of the season.
Wildcat center fielder Shelby Thompson and left fielder Meghan Lohullo had two-hit games.
Katie Warrington was the winning pitcher. She fanned 11, while allowing one run on two hits. Troisi was the hard-luck loser after giving up 10 hits and striking out one.
Philadelphia returns to action with a CACC doubleheader against visiting Nyack Saturday, April 7 at noon.
