Box Score 2 CALDWELL, N.J. – The Philadelphia University softball team was defeated by Caldwell in a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) doubleheader Monday afternoon. The score in both games was 7-3.
Shortstop Kacie DeMaio led the Philadelphia (5-18, 3-7 CACC) offense in game one with two of the team's four hits. Left fielder Emma Haley and pitcher Nicole Troisi had the others.
The Cougars (21-6, 10-0 CACC) scored at least one run in each of the first five innings. Center fielder Kristen Knorr put Caldwell ahead 2-0 with a home run to left field. In the fourth, Caldwell scored two more runs in the third to make the score 5-1 on a RBI double by second baseman Dia Cascone and a groundout by Knorr.
Philadelphia got on the board in the top of the third thanks to a RBI groundout from center fielder Allison Glaser. The Lady Rams pushed two more runs across in the fifth that made the score 5-3 on a pair of Cougar errors.
Kourtney Wilson was the winning pitcher with a complete game effort in which she struck out one. Nicole Troisi took the loss after fanning two in six innings.
Cascone had three of Caldwell's 11 hits.
In the nightcap six different Lady Rams had one hit each. Third baseman Andrea Schell connected for her first home run of the year, a two-run blast, in the sixth.
First baseman Margo DeBerardinis was responsible for the Lady Rams' first run by drawing a bases-loaded walk in the second.
Cougar catcher Alyssa Calderon, first baseman Briana Gaspich, Cascone and Knorr all had two hits. Gaspich hit a solo home run to open the fourth, while Knorr recorded a two-run shot in the fifth.
Sarah Almasy struck out five while throwing a complete game to take the win. Samantha Abromavage struck out one batter in a losing effort.
Philadelphia returns to action against visiting Bloomfield in a CACC doubleheader Tuesday, April 3 at 2:30 p.m.
